NDT Midlands Limited is an independently owned company offering high quality Non- Destructive Testing (NDT) solutions for all industry sectors across the UK. The company is owned and managed by Stewart Dudwell (Managing Director) and Amrik Laroya (Technical Director) who collectively have a total of 80 years' experience in the Non-Destructive Testing Industry.
The company proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, having grown from humble beginnings in 2006 with just three employees working from a small industrial unit – today the company employs a growing workforce of 22 people operating from a premises comprising 15,000sqft on the Planetary Road Industrial Estate in Willenhall.
Based centrally in the West Midlands within the Industrial Heartland of the UK we are ideally placed on the country's motorway network to serve our customers nationwide.
We are proud of the service we afford our customers, providing a rapid turnaround at competitive prices with quality at the forefront of our operations.
NDT inspection is a critical component in guaranteeing the integrity of raw materials used for manufacturing high-quality engineered parts, and is the final process in testing the finished parts. It is a third party inspection, which has become adopted as a preventative maintenance and a guarantee that manufactured safety critical parts are 'fit for purpose'.
Our NDT inspection services include:
- Magnetic Particle Inspection & Testing
- Dye Penetrant Inspection & Testing
- Ultrasonic NDT Techniques
We undertake these stringent testing programmes both at our premises or on-site at the client's premises.
We pride ourselves on our customer orientated approach, focusing on getting the service 'right first time' to the highest quality standards, both on-time and on-budget, continuously striving to exceed our customers' expectations in all of these areas.
Our knowledge, experience and dedication to offering a customer focused solution goes far beyond that of the usual Non-Destructive Testing supplier – we offer the complete package.
Our vastly experienced personnel offer a high degree of expertise and product knowledge, which allows us to support all industry sectors including; Fasteners, Engineering, Oil, Gas & Petrochemical, Power & Energy, Automotive, Aerospace, Construction and Defence.
During 2015 the company embarked on a large investment programme, and with the assistance of grant funding from the Green Bridge Supply Chain Programme & the Black Country Green Shoots Fund we were able to expand our workspace from 8,000sqft to 15,000sqft and purchase new test equipment.
This expansion included the installation of an additional bus bar system, which has doubled our capacity for examining 3m lengths of bar and we have increased our racking capacity to accommodate 240 tonnes of 3m bar.
The bus bar system allows for Magnetic Particle Inspection on large batch quantities of a 3m lengths of bar with dimensions ranging from ¾" to 4" diameter. Defective bars are depthed to determine 'fit for purpose', usually 2% of the diameter which is the accepted allowance.
Ultrasonic testing on bar stock, billets and forgings is undertaken in one of our two industrial units. The bars are laid out on racking ensuring that they are tested 100% at a comfortable height for both operator and witnessing inspectors.
Our second industrial unit is our 'Centre of Excellence' for testing finished components. We have created two large Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant Inspection compounds, which allows for space and capacity to test large batch quantities of components comfortably. We have added a state of the art Dye Penetrant System, which has trebled our capacity for testing non-ferrous components.
Raw bar stock which comes to the UK from all corners of the globe is tested for surface flaws or internal discontinuities. This determines that sub-standard bar, which may have surface cracking or internal voids, is rejected and quarantined prior to wasting time, effort and money on forging defective material or machining components which have to be scrapped.
Bar stock which is given a clean bill of health is returned to our customers to be machined. We undertake NDT on finished components and issue a 'Certificate of Conformance' to our customers to confirm the integrity of their parts before they then go into service around the world. All of these certified parts and components are safety critical for oil, gas, power, energy etc. where one failure could cause loss of life.
We also undertake trouble shooting for our customers from time to time when substandard and untested materials have been used to manufacture parts, and cracks have been identified on in-service components. The components will either be shipped back to our facility for inspection and testing or we will test on-site. Time will be of the essence as the faulty components may be holding-up production lines or construction projects.
We are an ISO 9001 accredited company. We have a dedicated team of engineers qualified in both European and world-wide approvals. All of our operators are qualified to either ISO9712 to PCN level 2, or SNT–TC-1A to ASNT level 2, or both.
As part of our company's continuous improvement policy we are currently training a new ultrasonic tester, two dye penetrant and one magnetic particle tester. They will each undergo training for a minimum of six months with up to two years before they are fully qualified.
Our company never stands still and we remain very ambitious. This year we will embark on several new projects including gaining accreditations for the Aerospace industry and growing our customer base and service offering. The future is bright....
